The religious holiday marks the beginning of the Islamic month of Syawal and the first day of fasting and prayer during the month of Ramadan.

Ramadan in 2023 will fall on Thursday, March 23.

If so, the 30-day fast will end on Friday, April 21, with Eid al-Fitr on that day.

This will lead to an expected four-day weekend in the UAE on April 20, 21, 22 and 23.

The confirmed dates for Ramadan and Eid will only be announced in Dubai according to their respective months, but there is no harm in planning ahead.

The exact date of the beginning of Ramadan is determined by religious experts at night.

Some observations should be made about the appearance and cycle of the moon - so specific dates can vary, usually by only a day or two.

The Ramadan forecast for March 23 comes from the forecast of the International Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences in the UAE.
If there is a mistake, it probably won't be more than a day or two - so you should give yourself enough time to plan your diary in advance.

Of course, if March 23 doesn't end, that will change during Eid.

After Eid al-Adha comes the Day of Arafat, the second day of the weekly Hajj on June 27.

There are 14 public holidays in the UAE in 2023. See below for the full list.
