what is the difference between rock salt and the common white table salt🧂

📍Table Salt - Refined and Iodized

📍Rock salt - Unrefined, Retains naturally occurring minerals

Now, since rock salt is Unrefined, ye to natural hai ki usme mineral composition zyada hogi. 💃

AYURVEDA SAYS

🔸Rock salt acts as a digestive stimulant.

🔸It helps remove toxins from the body.

🔸Acts as gut-coolant and relieves constipation.

🔸Helps regulate fluctuating sugar levels in the body.

IMPORTANT MINERALS PRESENT IN ROCK SALT

⭕ POTASSIUM-  Helps maintain electrolyte balance in the body, especially in summers🥵 when our bodies lose out on nutrients through sweat. Potassium also helps get rid of water 💦retention.

⭕ CALCIUM- Maintains healthy teeth🦷, stronger bones🦴 and is beneficial for the heart, relieves symptoms of PMS.

⭕ MAGNESIUM- Important for energy production, regulates💉 blood pressure and is one of the most important minerals for women's 👭general health and metabolic disorders like PCOS.

⭕ IRON - Helps treat anaemia by improving 📈haemoglobin levels, enhancing the absorption of nutrients like Vitamin C, good for the brain🧠.

BUT WHAT ABOUT SODIUM?

Rock salt has slightly less Sodium than its Table salt Counterpart.

Apart from sodium, table salt contains added iodine in the form of Potassium iodate, which rock salt lacks.

SO, IS IODISED SALT BAD?🤔

Not at all. Studies have deemed iodized salt as safe to consume up to 2.3 g in a day. But if you go above that limit🔝 (which isn't likely), it can cause suppression of thyroid hormone in people's normal thyroid levels, fluid retention in the lungs, sore teeth and gums etc.😣

People with Hypothyroidism (a metabolic disease caused by deficiency📉 iodine) are asked to consume Iodized 🧂Table Salt.

ON ANOTHER NOTE💃

If you are healthy and looking for a viable source of iodine and do not want to rely on white salt🧂, you can consume curd and milk 🥛(vegetarian sources) or egg🥚, fish🦈 (non-veg sources). Just a cup (250 g) of curd can provide 50% RDI of iodine.🥳

BOTTOMLINE 👇🏻

Rock salt is a great alternative to white salt 😇as the various minerals present, it makes it a better and wiser choice when it comes to adopting a  nutritionally balanced diet.🍱🥝🍅🥙

We recommend that you use both the salts rotationally in your daily cooking so that you do not miss out on Iodine, as well as other minerals and GET THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS💪🏻
